Match the jig to depth, current, and daylight

Speed jigs trade a wide flutter for a narrow profile that drops quickly and responds to a fast retrieve. The Shimano Butterfly Wing-Fall and Nomad Streaker are both 200-gram options; the Williamson Vortex moves up to 250 grams when extra depth or current calls for more metal.

The lure is only half the system. Check the rod’s jig-weight range, use line that lets the jig reach depth without excessive drag, and vary the retrieve before changing lures. Short bursts, a pause, and another burst let you cover more of the column than one exhausting full-speed sprint from bottom to boat.
